Given that I am always being asked if I ever have bad hair days, today I thought it might be fun to feature my Gag Reel – ‘Braids Gone Wrong.’
Each night I research and think of new ideas for the Braid I will style the next day and every morning I set aside twenty minutes to braid my daughter, Grace’s hair. Undoubtedly things don’t always go to plan, and today I wanted to expose my flaws. Yikes!
As you look at the photos in this blog, I want you to think about the reality of what goes on. It’s just Grace and I, at home with my husband and son, before school most of the time. She’s in her school uniform, and we are all doing our part of preparing for the day, chaotically eating, getting ready, packing bags and primping.
The photo’s I’m sharing today were not to the standard I like to uphold. The Braid just didn’t turn out the way I’d hoped it would. And sometimes it all goes wrong at the very end when I’m taking the photo. Pictures are not always crystal clear. A wardrobe can malfunction. Clothes tags sometimes hang out. Hair doesn’t always cooperate, and coloured hairspray is hard to get out. Believe me, I know.
So now you know I’m only human, and we have that in common. If you think you can’t braid like me, then think again. I’m self taught through a lot of trial and error. You never know what you can achieve if you give it a go. And if it doesn’t work out the way you wanted, then just pick yourself up and try again tomorrow.

I wish I could braid as ‘wrong’ as you…! Time to start practicing if only my daughter will sit still.. Am I correct in thinking Grace has quite fine hair? My daughter has fine hair, but LOTS of it and it always seems to look ‘fluffy’ and if I put even the slightest amount of product to smooth the frizzies it then looks greasy – How do you make Grace’s hair look so smooth and sleek all the time?
You inspire me to keep trying… 🙂
Thank you for your email. You are right in saying Grace’s hair is very fine. I style Grace’s hair damp from the shower and contain any flyaways with hairspray. It doesn’t always look like this at the end of a days play!
Thanks,
Shelley
